New American Indian group bringing cultural events to Mankato

Aug. 29—NORTH MANKATO — For centuries American Indians settled disputes with a game. That game with a stick and a ball inspired modern-day lacrosse. But that traditional game was lost as American Indians were pushed onto reservations.

A new group formed to promote Indigenous culture in the Mankato area is hosting an opportunity for all to learn about the lost game that is being revived.

The American Indian Cultural Events Group was at North Mankato’s Wheeler Park Saturday and will be back Sunday inviting families to learn about the history and try their hand at playing the traditional game.

Massachusetts commission to recommend $600 million in federal aid for cultural sector

A panel of lawmakers and industry leaders is poised to recommend that Massachusetts spend $600 million in American Rescue Plan Act funds to help the arts and culture sector rebound from economic devastation during the pandemic.

$105M available in grants for nonprofit arts, cultural organizations

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – It was announced Monday the availability of $105 million in critical arts and cultural funding through the New York State Council on the Arts. This funding includes a program to reinvigorate near-term live performances that opens for applications that open on Wednesday.

The grants will aid in the arts sector’s recovery from COVID-19 and begin the revitalization of New York’s creative economy, which fosters $123 billion annually in economic activity and supports more than 500,000 jobs statewide.
