Pamplin Media Group – Wilsonville wants feedback on proposed arts and culture commission

The city is forming the commission as a way to enhance cultural offerings in town.

The city of Wilsonville is poised to form a commission that would shepherd its strategy for improving and accentuating arts and culture in town. 

The city has created a draft proposal for the formation of the commission and will present the proposal during a Wilsonville City Council work session at 5 p.m. Monday, Nov. 15. Prior to that, the city is accepting public comment on the proposal until Nov. 8.

San Diego group wants to create a Black arts district, to share and preserve culture

On a recent morning, artist Kim Phillips-Pea led two women on a walking tour of a gray city block in Encanto that a couple of decades ago was a hub for Black arts, culture and community.

Today, the area is dominated by a trolley line, a handful of businesses, some homes and apartments and some abandoned buildings.

But it is slowly coming back to life with public artwork by local artists, Phillips-Pea said.

Pamplin Media Group – Gresham taking applications for arts and culture grant

City to support local performing arts, festivals and other cultural projects

The Gresham Arts and Culture grant is awarding local art and culture nonprofits up to $6,810.

Application forms can be found on the city’s website and are due Nov.15 at 12 p.m.

New American Indian group bringing cultural events to Mankato

Aug. 29—NORTH MANKATO — For centuries American Indians settled disputes with a game. That game with a stick and a ball inspired modern-day lacrosse. But that traditional game was lost as American Indians were pushed onto reservations.

A new group formed to promote Indigenous culture in the Mankato area is hosting an opportunity for all to learn about the lost game that is being revived.

The American Indian Cultural Events Group was at North Mankato’s Wheeler Park Saturday and will be back Sunday inviting families to learn about the history and try their hand at playing the traditional game.
