Festival held to celebrate 20th anniversary of National Museum of Puerto Rican Arts and Culture

CHICAGO It’s the 20th anniversary of the National Museum of Puerto Rican Arts and Culture, which has recently reopened following a period of closure due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

60 vendors will be out this weekend showcasing their art, including Javier Vargas, who uses beans instead of beads to create unique pieces.

“I have probably used about 400,000 beans,” Vargas said.

For Janice Aponte, the festival and museum speaks a lot about her culture and background. Her favorite oil paintings are of Boomba dancers.

“It expresses culture and rhythm and the colors of the island,” Aponte said.

Muncie Arts and Culture Council, PlySpace, receive National Endowment for the Arts grant

MUNCIE, Ind. —The Muncie Arts and Culture Council has been awarded a $10,000 grant by the National Endowment for the Arts.

The NEA awarded over $88 million in grants, the second round for 2021, according to a release from the NEA.

The MACC celebrates and supports local arts & culture and is the designated ArtsPartner for the City of Muncie.

The grant is part of NEA’s Grants for Art Projects, the main grant category that supports public engagement and creation of art in communities, according to the release.

Smithsonian, National Gallery of Art announce May reopenings

Smithsonian announces reopening dates for 7 museums and the National Zoo

(CNN) — The Smithsonian Institution announced on Friday that it will reopen seven of its museums and the National Zoo to the public next month, kicking off a phased reopening after it temporarily closed its facilities because of the pandemic.

The National Air and Space Museum’s Steven F.
