Camille Rose Garcia’s “Nereids of Mare Medusae.”…

At present on watch at Roq la Rue Gallery in Seattle, Washington is artist Camille Rose Garcia’s solo exhibition, “Nereids of Mare Medusae.”

“I imagine the human occasions of the previous few many years has left me stargazing and ocean wandering as a survival technique. I simply cannot only make art about a dying world, about a dying tradition, when there is however so significantly secret and awe inspiring natural beauty to working experience all close to us. My enchantment with ocean and star themes is significantly affected by my natural environment. I stay 20 minutes from the Pacific Ocean in California, and all through the Pandemic I would choose weekly ocean hikes with my mom, who lives in a property overlooking the ocean that my grandfather created.  It grew to become a resource of good convenience and solace  to be at the ocean buying up shells and odd pieces of driftwood, and I puzzled about its electricity to enchant and relaxed humans as a result of difficult situations.

For my solo show, “Nereids of Mare Medusae”, I was imagining of the ocean and of the stars, and then, of training course, about oceans on other stars. I started to think about the oceans on other planets, as I remembered that Europa and Enceladus, (moons of Saturn and Jupiter) both of those have oceans within the moon, surrounded by a thick crust of ice. I looked to see if these oceans experienced names, but I could not obtain any. I made a decision to title the ocean inside Enceladus, a person of Saturns’ moons. I named it Mare Medusae, not soon after Medusa, but immediately after the wonderful jellyfish drawings of Ernst Haeckel, who named the most stunning jellyfish he encountered immediately after his dead spouse Anna. The Nereids are Greek ocean spirits, but contrary to the Sirens, they are benevolent in mother nature. The Nereids aren’t just rather to look at even though, they are chaotic carrying out things in that ocean within that moon orbiting Saturn. Probably they construct magical instruments and natural machines produced of shells and serpents, producing a psychedelic universe with benevolent audio vibrations.” – Camille Rose Garcia
