Dubai has always been encouraging towards art and culture. The city’s metropolitan vibe has always attracted artists from across the globe to showcase their art in Dubai.
Making it a global hub of culture, art and creativity, the idea to grant cultural visas will open doors for artists from across the globe, making Dubai a global centre for culture. The decision comes from His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, who adopted a new system to grant the first cultural visa in the world.
The initiative will position UAE as the leader of the global cultural scene which will attract writers, artists, and creators alike. The new phase of the cultural visa initiative will not only be a global artistic hub but will also boost the economy around cultural activities.
According to the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, since the initiative was announced, it has received 261 cultural visa applications from individuals from 46 nations. The golden Dubai visa will be granted to talents hailing from the field of literature, culture, arts, heritage studies, history, knowledge and different creative industries.
Dubai has always been a melting pot of culture and art with having world-class opera houses to public libraries and theatres, heritage houses, historic neighbourhoods, ancient archaeological sites and museums among others which attracts millions of visitors annually.
Not just that, Dubai has been host to thousands of cultural events every year, bringing artists from the field of music, arts, literature and entertainment under one roof.
With such a creative hub that Dubai already is, the cultural visa will only add to the city’s rich and varied heritage, doubling its reputation globally and enhancing the UAE’s cultural economy.
