To be on the global map of creativity and boost the economy, the UAE has been taking essential steps to encourage creative talents in the region. With Dubai always been encouraging towards art and culture, a new strategic programme to double the number of creative companies specialising in content, design and culture has been launched.
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, announced the launch of ‘Dubai is the capital of the creative economy’ on Saturday, wherein the number of creative companies will be doubled from 8,000 to 15,000 and creative professionals from 70,000 to 150,000 over the next five years.

With the new strategy, the country aims to upgrade the legal and investment situation needed to branch the growth and prosperity of creative industries in Dubai and doubling the creative industries’ GDP contribution to 5 per cent of Dubai’s economy by 2025, from 2.6 per cent at the end of 2020.
Announcing on Twitter His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum wrote, “We launched a strategic program to make Dubai a global capital of the creative economy. We aim to increase the number of creative firms from 8,000 to 15,000 in Dubai and creative professionals from 70,000 to 150,000 within the next 5 years. Under the new program, we aim to increase the contribution of the creative economy to our GDP from 2.6% to 5% and launch new creative zones in content, design and arts. Innovation is an integral part of our economy, lifestyle and future.”
The concept of a creative economy covers varied fields including publishing, writing, media such as cinema, music and video, audio-visual and print, artistic and cultural industries, cultural heritage museums, historical sites, archives, major cultural events, libraries, and the software and videogame industry, including the design industry like fashion, gaming, software, architecture, etc. wherein creative minds can produce new and exciting concepts.
The Dubai Creative Economy Strategy is being executed under the patronage of Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairperson of the Dubai Culture & Arts Authority (Dubai Culture).

Taking to Twitter to express about the new plan and she wrote, “Dubai over the years has developed the favourable infrastructure and environment that allow its creative industries to thrive, positioning itself as a global cultural centre and a global capital of the creative economy. We will work closely with our partners in the public and private sectors and the creative community to fulfil our goals for the cultural & creative industries. Today we will write a new success story for Dubai and the UAE.”
