Starting July 2, Vineyard Haven’s First Friday invites all ages to an evening of art, music, shopping, food, and inspiration to celebrate Vineyard Haven from 4 to 11 pm on Main Street and Owen Park. This year, First Friday is a cornerstone event of the town of Tisbury’s 350th anniversary. The event is free, with activities for all ages.
From 4 to 7 pm, Main Street is turned into a walking art and craft market, showcasing the best of Martha’s Vineyard artisans and sidewalk sales from local shops, according to a press release. Local restaurants, both on and off Main Street, offer dining experiences and takeout as local musicians perform streetside.
Then from 7 to 9 pm, Music on a Barge happens at Owen Park. Dance and picnic while enjoying the tunes of local bands and musicians. Visitors can enjoy local food trucks and a bonfire by the Tisbury Fire Department. A “silent disco” after-party hosted by Pathways will take place from 9 to 11 pm.
A community-based festival, First Friday aims to bring the community together to celebrate Vineyard Haven’s local identity, art, culture, music, commerce, and maritime history, the release says. The event takes place the first Friday of July through October, with special events for the holidays, and charitable causes. For the full schedule and music lineup, visit firstfridayvh.com.
First Friday is the signature event of Visit Vineyard Haven, the new partnership between Vineyard Haven Business Association (VHBA) and Vineyard Haven Harbor Cultural District (VHHCD). According to the press release, “each will lead parallel efforts to advance the goals and interests of commerce and culture in Vineyard Haven.” Together, Visit Vineyard Haven aims to stimulate the growth of arts, culture, small businesses, and waterfront culture for residents and visitors by facilitating year-round art, cultural and community events, and buying local, as well as wayfinding and placemaking initiatives.
