Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma is known to be someone who doesn’t mince his words and calls a spade exactly what it is. Today, the filmmaker took to his social media page, where he usually posts things that generate a lot of debate, to share his views on the Kannada film industry and how it has now made its presence felt on the world map in the biggest way possible.

RGV, who has previously directed the Kannada film Killing Veerappan starring Shivarajkumar in the lead, posted a comment that drew a lot of discussion on how the Kannada film industry was not taken seriously until a couple of years ago but things have changed.

The filmmaker tweeted, “Until 2 years back let alone Bollywood, even South industry never took Kannada industry seriously… Kudos to @prashanth_neel & @TheNameIsYash for putting it map #KGF2.” This comment drew a lot of praise from the Rocking Star’s fans, of course.

Though, a lot of Kannada film fans also took to pointing out that he must not generalise his statements like that and some even reminded him of the golden era of the 1970s and 80s, when there were films from the industry that were heralded by everyone in the country and the world. The comment also did not sit well with fans of other Kannada stars, who only stated that RGV was just swimming with the tide and praising this because Salaar is in the limelight and he wanted to gain some attention because of that.
