BENTON HARBOR — The exhibit “Recounting” opens Saturday and continues through April 30 at ARS Gallery ▪ Arts and Culture Center, 147 Fifth St.
The exhibit features the works of Amelia Briske, a figurative abstract oil painter who lives and works in Millburg, Mich. Her paintings have been described as visual narratives of human emotion that, she says, “reflect a colorful romance of everyday life.”
Briske grew up in Michigan and attended the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. In Chicago, she received commissions to paint several murals throughout the city and to design more than a dozen restaurants.
She became known in the city for her fine painting, sense of color, use of material, handcrafted light fixtures, authentic style and use of Feng Shui.
In 2003, she married artist Kirby Brisk, and the two moved back to Michigan, where they renovated a historic barn and opened The Blue Dress Barn Wedding Venue in Benton Harbor. Two more venues, MillCreek Wilde and Sundance, both in Southwest Michigan, followed.
An opening reception takes place from 4 to 6 p.m. Feb. 12.
Hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays.
